Please join the USS Constitution Museum on Thursday, October 20, from 6PM – 8 PM for a special kick-off event to celebrate the launch of new free resources for libraries and educators to commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812.

Get a sneak peek at the Museum’s Old Ironsides Activity Book and Discovery Kit, funded by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and available later this year. This resource encourages children and families to explore what it was like to be a sailor on board Constitution during the War of 1812 through hands-on activities, games, 1812 sailors, images of real museum artifacts, online challenges, engaging text, and illustrations by renowned British illustrator Stephen Biesty.

The evening will also mark the launch of the Museum’s online K-12 War of 1812 curriculum. The curriculum is based on ten years of research and includes 120 printable activities and lesson plans.

The Old Ironsides Activity Book and War of 1812 curriculum both intersect with the Museum’s award winning online game and educational resource www.asailorslifeforme.org.

Members from the Smithsonian Institution will be on hand to discuss the USS Constitution Museum’s new Affiliation.

Sarah Brannen, illustrator of the children’s book Mathias Franey, Powder Monkey, will be on hand to autograph her book which will be available for purchase in the Museum Store.
