Core Services Short Overview

MLS Services include:

Delivery, Contracted courier service to support sharing of physical resources among over 600 libraries.

Advisory services on topics such as web applications, policy and personnel issues, long range planning, and marketing by email, phone or in person.  Many advisory resources, including the MA Library Policy Collection, are available on our website.

Continuing education to keep library staff current on a wide range of topics. Sessions are offered in locations throughout the Commonwealth or online.

Cooperative purchasing, providing opportunities for libraries to maximize their resources through access to deep discounts off library materials and supplies.  In addition, we provide selected opportunities to purchase equipment or e-resources collaboratively.

Online Content (Databases), providing direct access to a range of electronic resources for students, children and adults to use at home, in the office, or at the library.  Resources include online journals, magazines, and newspapers.  MLS also provides training and technical support to ensure libraries can use the databases effectively.

MassCat, a shared integrated library system with holdings from school, medical, law, special and a few public libraries.   Seventy libraries share resources with one another using MassCat.

BiblioTemps® provides experienced library workers for short-term placements in public, academic, and special libraries throughout the state.

Interlibrary loan and journal article delivery, providing and promoting timely and cost effective resource sharing through contracting centers in Wellesley, Quincy, and Boston.

Library Summer Program for children, teens, adults and families, available through public libraries, in person or online.  MLS participates in the national Collaborative Library Summer Program.
