Colin Wilkins, Head of Collection Development, describes their collection as follows:

Our Library of Things collections have been a great conversation starter between the Library and our community. When we let people know about our cake pan collection or that we’ll soon be circulating vinyl records and record players, they are sometimes taken aback, but then they get excited and start to wonder (often aloud) about what other possibilities the Library holds. That said, for me it’s not as much about what the Library collects as it is about sparking conversation and maintaining close communication with the community about what they’re interested in. This also means it does not necessarily require spending thousands of dollars to make a splash and increase the Library’s visibility — public libraries of all sizes have the opportunity to incorporate Library of Things collections in a meaningful way that still squares with their core mission.
